Golden Rock Inn is a unique boutique hotel in Nevis in a beautiful setting, occupying the grounds of a former sugar plantation stretching up the hillside of Nevis Peak. The characterful hotel is a peaceful destination where guests can relax amid stunning gardens with wonderful views and enjoy excellent cuisine.
The whole estate covers almost 100 tropical acres, including 15 acres of landscaped gardens about 1000 feet above sea level, with spectacular views over the Caribbean Sea towards the islands of Antigua and Montserrat. The property has a serene yet magical feel, with cobbled paths leading past small pools and fish ponds, through tropical gardens which are home to plenty of birdlife, wild monkeys and the occasional donkey. Guests at Golden Rock Inn can wander along the pretty pathways by themselves, or accept an invitation to explore the gardens with the head gardener.
The historic plantation has been restored and creatively expanded by two artists from New York, who also assisted in the design of the gardens. 19th century stone buildings have been furnished in a simple yet contemporary style, with modern art throughout as well as pieces inspired by the owners’ travels. Red painted doors and window shutters open to reveal stone terraces surrounded by lush vegetation.
The 11 simple yet comfortable guest rooms are all individually furnished with bleached wood floors, antique furniture alongside more modern pieces with splashes of colour, from Moroccan rugs to brightly coloured walls. Most rooms occupy cottages spread out across the hillside, while a unique suite occupies a traditional sugar mill and offers accommodation for families.
At the heart of the Golden Rock estate is The Rocks Restaurant, one of the best dining venues on Nevis which is renowned for its lobster sandwiches. Meals are served al fresco on dining terraces overlooking cascading pools with views towards the sea, or at intimate tables hidden among the tropical gardens. The restaurant specialises in modern Caribbean cuisine using fresh fish and lobster caught by local fishermen, and tropical fruit and vegetables produced by farmers nearby. The bar serves signature cocktails under stone vaulted ceilings, with plenty of open air terraces where guests can relax with a drink.
A 50ft freshwater swimming pool is found a short walk away, fed by a spring and surrounded by terraces with sun beds.
Staff at Golden Rock Inn are friendly, attentive and happy to arrange activities to ensure guests make the most of their time on Nevis. Possible excursions include birdwatching, sailing tours, day trips to nearby islands, snorkelling and scuba diving. Guests can also hire bicycles or hire a car to discover Nevis and visit the many special beaches found around the island.
